Scheduling

October 9, 2009

Before we were allowed to begin filming, we had to have a schedule ready. This was to make sure we were able to manage our time resoursefully and effectively. By Scheduling, it made sure that not only did we know what we were doing on each day, but also gave our cast a simple timetable to follow.

Again, I am using Celtx for this. Not only does Celtx allow me to upload storyboards, but it also organises Time Management (Scheduling), Master Catalogues (Prop/Costume/Actor list) and Scripts.

Storyboarding

October 8, 2009

A lesson learnt from storyboarding during the preliminary task was that the storyboards did not have enough detial and were difficult to follow. The descriptions for direction were kept simple, making it easy to follow. I decided to keep the descriptions similar to before, but to draw the storyboard with more precise detail.

Instead of using a storyboard template with 6 boxes, I decided to use a programme called Celtx. This meant drawing each storyboard on A4 paper, scanning it onto the computer and then finally uploading it onto the programme. By using a full sheet of A4 gave me an advantage, as it meant that I didn’t have to fit all detail into a 6x6cm box. I was able to draw more detail onto faces for close up and also add arrows to show direction of facial and body movement.

Celtx is very simple to use and a lot more practical for storyboarding, as it allows one to see all the storyboards and description on screen at the same time, rather than having to search through all of them. Celtx also provides an option to select the shot one shall use whilst filming, for example; Master, Medium and Close-up.

Rather than just scanning and uploading, I decided to add more detail by using a Graphic tablet and Photoshop. Once I’d uploaded all of the storyboards, one by one I opened them in Photoshop and used the tablet to carefully add shading to the drawings and any small detail I had missed out. I could have used colour during this process, how ever this would have been very time consuming and I’d have rather kept the designs as simple and clear as possible.
