Change in location

After uploading the footage from the second chorus situated at Banovallum School drive, it occurred to me that some of the lip syncing would not fit and the camera went out of focus at several occasions. To be honest, it didn’t surprise me as it required several re-takes to film this part. I was unable to film down the long exit drive due to building construction, so instead had to use the entrance drive and part of the car park. This route contained a large turn whilst I was driving, so this must have been when the camera went out of focus. Moreover, because I can not change the route of where I have to drive, I shall have to reevaluate the situation. This weekend, instead of re-filming at Banovallum, I am going to try a different location:
Horncastle College drive This location is similar to that of Banovallum, I shall still be filming on a driveway and have contact to he people who work in reception. The driveway of the college is about 70-80yards, which is slighty too short, but I can try over come this by starting as far back as possible. I feel this location will probably work better anyway as there are trees surrounding the drive, which should give a good effect falling behind in the background.
Chosen locations

Bus Stop I wanted my locations to be everyday settings, rather than set on a stage or somewhere unrealistic. So where better than a bus stop? I have in fact done a project on this location before in an art project. I decided it would be good to begin the video here, as it resembles the start of someones day; waiting for a bus. It didn’t particularly matter where they were going, but I wanted a location to explain itself and be very straightforward for the audience. I did not want the viewer to be focussing on the location; Where? Why?, I wanted it to be easy to understand. Luckily, this bus stop is rarely used. No buses pass it on a sunday, so that has to be the day I’d film there. I was ideal for what I wanted in the shot, it has a seat for the two girls to sit and chat on, and two covering walls for Phil to peer behind, reflecting his shy personality.
Langton hill drive For the chorus, I needed an open road which was quiet so I had no interruptions from members of the public. Not only is this estate quiet and open planned, but also fit my ‘everyday setting’ requirement. There was nothing I needed to change about the location, nor any props I needed to add. Similar to that of the bus stop, the plain location provided full attention on Phil from the audience. There were turns in the road, which I thought may have been an obstical and could have caused unsteady camera footage. However, due to very steady and slow driving, I was able to overcome this.
Bedroom I decided to use my own brothers bedroom for this location, it is a typical teenage boys room and needed little adding to it. I appreciate that the lighting in the room is already a little dull, and I shall also have to point the camera towards the window. Once I have experimented with footage of the room, I shall decide whether or not I need artificial lighting. The only thing I am going to change about the room is make it look ‘lived in’. I shall probably place clothes on the floor, un-make the bed and place a few Alevel school books ont he bedside table.
Banovallum School drive I wanted a similar location to that of my previous chorus, and it also needed to be quiet. Although this photo was taken as school was ending, I would film during the weekend when nobody should be there. The driveway is about 100 yards long, so gives me plenty of road to drive on without having to turn around. I may have to check with the Headmaster if it is okay to be on the property, but seeing as I am a previous student of the school this shouldn’t be a problem.
Thimbleby Main road I had to take into consideration that I wanted this scene to be in a dusk lighting, therefore the street light was a perfect source to light up the scene. I was scheduled to film over winter, therefore it would start getting dark at around 4-5pm. I wanted the dusk lighting to give the impression it was the end for the day, reflecting the ending of the song. I had to be aware that the quality of the lighting on the footage would be poor, so the lighting from the street light took this worry away. Other than lighting, the other factor that attracted me to this area was that it was an open space and gave me plenty of room to place the camera, allowing a range of angles. The road would not be particularly busy late afternoon, which enforced my opportunity of plenty of room to film.
Accommodation road estate Chloe, one of my cast, lives on this estate and she was the one who suggested I could use it. I was slightly pessimistic as I thought it might be quite busy, therefore I would have people wandering in the background of the footage during the chorus. However, it would make a really good location for the last chorus as it was a wide turn in the road which would be easy to follow so not to shake the camera or for it to fall out of focus. The houses and cars in the background will also look effective falling behind as Phil is running towards the camera.
